The background
story…
After the First World War, English factories were asked to design and manufacture new motorcycles for the British Army.
In 1935, Norton delivered the Model 16 to the Military. One year later, this single - cylinder would be the most widespread motorcycle in the British Army until 1944.
The Norton 1611 motorcycle supplied British motorcycle units during all of the war until the BSA M20 replaced it in late 1943. However, the Norton still broadly equipped the Anglo-Canadian troops during the Battle of Normandy. It was essentially used for Raison missions behind the front.
The Norton 16H was produced until 1954 and was used in the Belgian, Danish, Greek and Dutch armies.

All the greatest things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; duty; mercy; hope.
~ Winston Churchill
Origin and Condition
As motorcycle enthusiasts, the Nerrants
extended their collection with iconic
World War Two models.
This Norton 1611 was acquired
shortly before the museum opened.
It was reconditioned with original spare parts
and a particular attention to details:
original handles and webbing saddle bags, double leather seat, brass speedometer,
Bakelite “Norton” plate on the tank, blackout headlight - a true museum piece.
Currently this 1943 Norton WD 16H bike resides in a private-collector’s property in Singapore.
